Horology; a Popular Sketch of Clock and Watch Making
This small book of some 70 pages follows the traditional template of reviewing the history of timepieces and their escapements but, uniquely, includes (from page 53) extensive advice on how to buy and care for a watch followed by a series of advertisements for Edwd Grafton’s Watch Manufactory where you could buy a silver lever watch from £5 5 0 (£5.25)!
I can’t help thinking that this book is really just an early marketing tool
Edward Grafton, 1849
